How We Benchmark Hosting & Deploy Tools
Hosting claims are noisy. Our default is a checklist you can copy, not a single magic score. When we have not yet run a timed trial from a named region, we say so.
What we record
- Plan shape: vCPU, RAM, disk, bandwidth, egress pricing as of check date.
- Region: which datacenter we used (or plan to use).
- Deploy DX: git push time-to-live URL, preview deploys, env vars, rollback.
- Cold vs warm: for serverless/static edges, note cache headers when relevant.
- Ops load: SSH access, firewall, backups, snapshots for VPS.
- Disclosure: affiliate
/go/stubs until approved.
Dimensions
| Dimension | Meaning for side projects |
|---|---|
| Time-to-hello-world | Minutes from signup to public URL |
| Steady cost | Monthly floor at idle + expected egress surprise risk |
| Perf checklist | Repeatable curl/httping notes—not single anecdotal ms claims |
| Ops burden | How much patching/security you own |
| Exit hatch | Snapshots, object storage, DNS cutover pain |
